Hosting Control Panel - Login and functions

The Hosting Control Panel is the "Control Centre", so to speak, of your webhosting. Here you have access to all the functions that are included with your hosting subscription. You can, for instance, create email addresses and databases, view statistics, change passwords and much more.

You will receive the login details for your Hosting Control Panel in the email that contains your other login details (FTP / FrontPage).

The address of the Control Panel changes according to which server you are on. However, the format of the address is always the same: "" (the X should be replaced by the number of your server).

HCP login and functions 1

The link can be found in the email with the login details: (the X should be replaced by your server number).

2. At the first login you will see the overview on the left:

Using the navigation panel on the left, you can now access all the functions that have been made available for your hosting. For all important or often used functions there are detailed instructions in our Support area.

All functions that you can access via the navigation panel are briefly explained in the following:

1. In the "General" section, you have the following possibilities:

HCP functions overview The overview offers you, as the word suggests, a general summary of the settings that are activated for your hosting. You can see here, for instance, how much storage space is taken or is still free, how many email addresses and mailboxes you have set up, and much more.

HCP functions server login "Server messages" contain information about work done on the servers or general information and error messages that concern the whole server infrastructure. As Hoststar always gives warning via email when serious alterations are made to a server, you do not necessarily have to look out for server messages. "Server messages" are exclusively generated by the servers themselves and may be safely ignored.

HCP functions transfer volume "Transfer volumes": here you can see how much traffic you have already used in the current month and year. There is differentiation between normal web traffic and FTP traffic, which means that you see on the one hand the amount of data that visitors to your website have downloaded and on the other hand the amount of data that you yourself have loaded via FTP onto the server.

HCP functions access statistics Here you can display the access statistics or change the password for opening the statistics page. The access statistics offer you the possibility of seeing which of your pages are accessed and how often. This means you can find out which are the most popular pages on your website.

HCP functions change password With this function you can change the password for access to your Hosting Control Panel. Please note that in doing this the password for FTP access is also changed, as this is regulated via the same username.

HCP functions language Here you can change the language of the Hosting Control Panel. The languages available are "Deutsch" (German) and "English".

2. In the "Email" section, you have the following possibilities:

HCP functions overview This function does not offer any summaries, but simply again shows the individual options that you can set for email. You can just as easily access all the points shown directly from the navigation panel on the left-hand side.

  HCP functions email addresses

Here you get an overview of all email addresses that you have created. You also have the possibility of creating more addresses and of changing the storage location of existing addresses. You can find a guide to the creation of email addresses here.

HCP functions POP3 mailboxes Very much like with the email addresses, you have here an overview of all the POP3 mailboxes you have set up. You can also set new passwords for your mailboxes here.

HCP functions access statistics With this function you have the possibility of altering the size (i.e. the available storage space) of your mailboxes, according to your requirements. More detailed information about mail quota is to be found in our corresponding Guide.

HCP functions change password Here you set up an automatic answering function for one or more of your email addresses. A setup guide can be found here.

HCP functions mailing lists With a mailing list you can define distribution lists for people you know or for sending newsletters to customers, etc.

HCP functions spam filter This function includes all possible settings for your spam filter. You can give each mailbox its own rules and thus customize the spam filter according to your own requirements. You can find a Guide for using SpamAssassin in our Support area.

3. The "Settings" section includes the following functions:

HCP functions overview As with the emails section, the overview here only gives an outline rather than providing detailed information.

HCP function frontpage Here you can newly define the password and email address to be used for access to FrontPage.

HCP functions MySQL MThis function takes you to the central management of your MySQL databases. Here you can create new databases or deal with the management (phpMyAdmin) of your existing databases.
You can find a guide to the creation of databases here.

HCP functions domains Under "Domains" there is an overview of all domain names that have been installed in the current hosting package. You can also set up further subdomains for the installed domain names.

HCP functions change password You can only see this function if the Frontpage server extensions have been deactivated beforehand. Here you can provide password protection for your folders and give them their own login details (username and password).

HCP functions FTP users Here you can set up additional FTP users, for instance to make access available to your friends without having to reveal your own login details.

HCP functions error pages You can only see this function if the FrontPage Server extensions have been deactivated beforehand. Here you can define your own error pages, and thus for example incorporate a 404 error message (page could not be found / cannot be displayed) into the infrastructure of your website.

HCP functions software center In the Software Center you can install whole applications directly onto your web platform with just a few mouse clicks. You have a choice from over 80 different applications in various categories.

4. The "Tools" section offers you the following possibilities:

HCP functions overview As with the Settings, the overview here only gives an outline rather than providing detailed information.

HCP functions server login Here you go to the management of your databases. You can see exactly how the management functions in the corresponding Guide in our Support area.

HCP functions transfer volume Whether you program Perl scripts yourself or only make use of them, this tool gives you the possibility of checking if the syntax of a particular script is correct and can be interpreted by the server.

HCP functions access statistics Via this point you arrive at the access for WebFTP. WebFTP is an easy way to take a look at the files that are stored on your website and to carry out minor alterations to them if required.

HCP function change password This function takes you to the login for Webmail. Via Webmail you can view and write your emails directly online without having to use an email client such as Outlook. In our Support area you can find a detailed Guide to exactly how you can login to Webmail.

HCP functions language With the Backup function, you can, with a simple click on a button, create a safety backup copy of all data that is to be found on your website, as well as data in your "files" folder and all MySQL databases that you own. You can restore all the data on a backup  at any time you want.

HCP functions language This is the counterpart to the backup function. Here you can view your backups and restore an existing backup if required: the data that was backed up reverts to the state it was in at the time of the backup.
